How do I work with the Writer in Residence at ABS?

Writer in Residence Scheme at ABS

To celebrate the opening of our new school a number of creative initiatives are taking place over the course of the year, in recognition of your diverse talents and strengths.

One of these is an exciting new scheme to help nurture and celebrate your creativity through writing.

Our Writer in Residence this year is Ms Robson, who has taken time off from English teaching to write a novel, and hopes to write alongside you budding authors to share her ideas for firing up the imagination and transforming ideas into words on the page.

Ms Robson has run writing clubs at ABS before and has always been amazed at her pupils’ ability to step into others’ shoes, to see the world through different eyes. Writing unlocks creativity in so many ways but it also helps us to explore who we are, why we and others do what we do, so by taking part in our writing activities you will explore life outside of the classroom and share your unique view of the world in a place where your voice is valued and heard.

You can participate through:

  • writing workshops (linked to specific subject/curriculum areas)
  • contributing stories, features, poems to a school magazine (published three times a year)
  • uploading writing to Moodle for all to read
  • attending after school writing clubs and workshops
  • entering competitions
  • contributing to an online blog

You will be given the opportunity to write:

  • Short stories
  • Flash fiction
  • Poems
  • Monologues
  • Articles
  • blogs

You will learn

  • how to craft your writing
  • create interesting, credible, engaging characters
  • structure stories, poems, monologues to surprise, intrigue and engage readers
  • become more creative in how you use language
  • develop into engaged and critical readers.

Competitions will be held termly to encourage and inspire you to write.

At the end of the academic year, in the summer term, we will celebrate your creative journey by publishing a booklet of your writing, selected by a panel of readers from across the school.

If you have any ideas for the writing workshops or would like to be part of the reading panel, please contact Ms Robson on:

A Caring Christian Environment

"Our two daughters have had the best start in life thanks to the caring, enthusiastic and hardworking staff of Archbishop Blanch School. Choosing the right secondary school for one's children is such a difficult task, but we could feel the special ethos of ABS on our first visit. You inspire your pupils to achieve the academic heights of which they are capable in a happy, safe and vibrant environment."
Archbishop Blanch Parent.
