University of Liverpool Scholars Programme

At Archbishop Blanch School we offer students the opportunity of applying for the University of Liverpool Scholars Programme.

The University of Liverpool is committed to supporting talented students who wish to access Higher Education, regardless of background. The Liverpool Scholars programme does this by offering year 12 students the chance to take part in a range of activities aimed at preparing them for university life, including academic skills workshops, lectures, seminars and more. Students also produce an academic assignment, supported by an academic tutor, allowing them to experience university teaching and learning and to demonstrate their own academic ability and potential. Current undergraduate and postgraduate students are closely involved in the project, offering academic and general support throughout. Successfully completing the Scholars programme will enhance a student’s application to the University of Liverpool and offers a range of benefits:

  • A guaranteed conditional offer of a place at The University of Liverpool*
  • This offer is reduced by 40 UCAS points.
  • The Liverpool Scholars Award; a non-repayable financial bursary to help towards tuition fees and living costs for Scholars who successfully complete the programme and begin undergraduate studies at The University of Liverpool.

Students studying NHS funded degree programmes are ineligible for the Liverpool Scholars Award. However they are instead eligible to apply for a NHS bursary and means-tested grant. Student attending North Liverpool Academy, Enterprise South Liverpool Academy or Parklands High School will receive a separate bursary and are unable to claim the Liverpool Scholars Award in addition.

  • Please note: *Offers are made on a conditional basis. Scholars must go on to attain the results required to meet the conditions set out in any offers made in order to gain a place at the university, as well as having “Home/EU” status.

In order to be eligible to apply, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a year 12 student currently studying two year, level 3 qualifications E.G. AS levels, BTEC etc.
  • Be studying at one of our partner or associate schools or colleges in Greater Merseyside.
  • Have at least 8 A* – C grades at GCSE (or equivalent e.g. GNVQ, BTEC etc) including English and Maths, 5 of which must be at grade B or above.
  • Be from a family with little or no experience of Higher Education. For example, neither parent has attended university and obtained an undergraduate degree or equivalent in the UK or abroad. If one parent is currently studying for their first degree or they graduated within the last five years, applications will still be considered.

Plus one of the following:

  • Be in receipt of or entitled to discretionary payments/16-19 bursary/Pupil Premium at school/college.
  • Be in receipt of or entitled to free school meals.
  • Have a household income of less than £35,000.
  • Be living in or have lived in, local authority care.
