Heads Above the Rest

On Tuesday 18th October 23 year 7 and 8 students gathered to bring their ‘Heads Above the Rest’ designs to life, in time for a haute couture fashion show performance and presentation to family and friends. ‘Heads Above the Rest’ was a collaborative enterprise venture with Liverpool Young Chamber of Commerce, members of which guided our students through the process, developing their business skills and understanding of the world of work. Our students worked in groups to create a design which suited their theme of choice, by taking on a variety of roles including Artistic Director, Hair Stylist, Make-Up Artist, Costumes Designer and Model, all of which had very specific demands and responsibilities. Once our students had created a vision they worked separately with industry professionals to refine their element of the design before working together to spend their budget wisely on resources and supplies. On the day of the fashion show the heart of the school was transformed into a giant catwalk whilst our students worked creatively, confidently and collaboratively to bring their creations to life. During her presentation after strutting down the catwalk, Maisie Jackson (Year 7) stated, “Heads Above the Rest has given me lots of skills like team work, compromise and communication but the main thing is that I now have the confidence to pursue my dream career as a model”. Miss Melluish and Miss Morris were blown away by the student’s passion and determination throughout the process and were particularly impressed when each group creatively used their remaining budget to buy/hire special items from the costume and/or design technology cupboard in school. The final designs were absolutely fantastic and our students demonstrated so much confidence and pride during the show, well done girls.
