Great Time Had By All At Our Liverpool Maths Party!
Pupils worked in groups to plan, film and edit Maths revision videos on a topic of their choice. The best videos will go onto the school website. Pupils had tocarefully plan their script, content and filming so that each member of the team played a role and also to ensure that the video produced was of a high mathematical quality.
Activity 1: Drones – Become a Pilot
Our LRC served the perfect venue for some drone flying! Pupils also worked together to program a drone to take off, flip multiple times, and land. They also programmed it to fly forward at a particular speed for a specified duration to a target, then backward to the origin where it started.
Many of our maths activities were also topical as pupils worked together to ‘tackle’ a variety of problem solving tasks all related to Euro 2016. The tasks involved topics such as speed, distance, time, currency conversions, using formulae and angles.
Finally, Pupils need to work as a team to design and create model beam bridges using newspapers, sellotape and string. Their mission was to to build the strongest bridge possible which would hold a 1kg weight for at least 30 seconds and span a gap of 1 metre.
