Jessica Jones awarded 'Women in Engineering' scholarship!

We were extremely proud to learn that former Archbishop Blanch student Jessica Jones has bee awarded 1 of only 5 'Women in Engineering' scholarships from the University of Warwick, where she is currently studying.

The scholars were selected by demonstrating that they had the potential to be leading role models in their chosen field and outstanding academic performance at A-Level.

The Women in Engineering Scholars Programme is being launched for first year undergraduates in 2015-16. This programme has been made possible by the generous support of two donors who are committed to addressing the shortage of female role models in engineering by supporting the most talented engineering students to develop their careers.

Did you know? Recent independent studies show that:

  • The proportion of female engineering professionals in the UK is amongst the lowest in Europe
  • Fewer than 30% of girls aged 11-16 are aware of a female in their network (e.g. relative, family friend) in a STEMM-related role (EDF Energy, 2015)
  • Only 7% of parents anticipate that a career in engineering would appeal to their daughter (IET ‘Engineer a Better World’ 2015)

Jessica should serve as a role model and inspiration to all ABS students! Well done, Jessica!
