Mr McLaren is involved with a local educational charity called Hope One World who each year send UK trained teachers to disadvantaged communities around the world.
Over the summer holidays he will be travelling to Northern India to work with children in Tibetan refugee communities. Many of these children are orphans or have been separated from their parents and families as a result of the Chinese occupation of Tibet.
Hope One World are a small charity and the cost of sending a team out to India is substantial. As such they rely on the goodwill of family, friends and donors to help raise as much as possible towards out costs.
As part of his fundraising activities he has completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge on Saturday, 13th May as a sponsored event. This is a 24 mile hike over 3 different peaks over 2000 feet which must be completed within 12 hours. As an additional challenge, he had also agreed to carry all the kit for his team of 4!!
Mr McLaren completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in 10 hours on Saturday.
