This year’s summer school was a great success, running for two weeks in July.Places were offered to all year 6 students who were due to start Archbishop Blanch the following September and we were thrilled that 87% of students attended, and 90% of students eligible for the pupil premium took part.
Students experienced a full and diverse timetable including core subjects such as English, maths and scientific experiments, but also an introduction to practical subjects and facilities they may not have had experience of in primary school, such as food technology, product design, and the art and performance studios.Students also engaged in a ‘treasure hunt’ to familiarise themselves with the building and each day started with an assembly focussing on one of our core values and opportunities for students to develop both their physical and mental well-being.The two weeks were a great opportunity for staff and students to get to know each other and hopefully help reduce a little of the anxiety that can come with starting secondary school.
