This was the verdict of the judges at the Liverpool Music Festival, held at St George’s Hall last November, when they announced ABJAZZ as the winners of the Open Class, gaining a distinction for their performance.  The adjudicator said “if he closed his eyes he would have thought it was a professional group playing!”.  The group is formed from a mixed age range of students at Archbishop Blanch School who have been playing together as a band only since September 2005.  The school’s Chamber Choir were also delighted to come second in their ‘Unaccompanied choirs’ class.  We thank Mr. Moss and Mr. ‘Keeffe for their training of these groups within our music department.

Many individual students were also successful in solo performance classes. Megan Lam won her vocal class and Katie Patel (currently studying A level music at ABS) won the prestigious ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ award. She is taught flute by Mr. Costello who teaches several of our more advanced flautists at ABS. Many of our pupils also attend Saturday Music School and took part in the festival with these groups.

“AS ALWAYS I AM VERY PROUD OF ALL OUR MUSICIANS FOR THEIR SUPERB EFFORTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS”. S. Wheatcroft, Director of Music.
