How to apply for a place in the sixth form

Each year up to 140 students are admitted to Year 12 at the age of 16, up to 40 of whom may be external applicants. Places are awarded on the basis of academic suitability for the courses that will run, using criteria that will be published in the Sixth Form Prospectus, and measured in the first instance by GCSE results. GCSE results will be used as an over-subscription criteria should this prove necessary; pupils with the best average GCSE grade will be admitted.

We are very proud of our Sixth Form which caters for both sexes. Each student has a special role to play in the life of the school. We encourage them to make the most of their time both academically and socially. The privileges of Sixth Form life carry with them responsibilities. This is seen as valuable preparation for life in the 21st century.

We have a magnificent self-contained Sixth Form Centre which provides post-16 students with a large social area and garden enjoying unrivalled views of the Liverpool skyline. There is also a Bistro, well appointed kitchen, extensive study area and computer suites.

Quote from the Ofsted Report held in April 2008: " "Standards are above average. Students value their lessons and benefit from their teachers' considerable subject expertise. Students receive excellent pastoral care and, as a result of good guidance from their teachers, they understand how to improve their work. The sixth form is well led and managed, with the head of sixth form building on established strengths to improve, for example, students' understanding of how they can achieve the higher grades in their examinations.""
